India :

I was going through Dainik Bhaskar this morning and came across a news item heading,” Padak Vijeytaon ka samman.” The girl’s junior team of wrestling which has got Bronze Medal in sub-junior Asian Championship held at Uzebikkstan. Very fine! Immediately another point came to my mind. A girl from Chiri Village was a member of the Hockey team which got a gold medal at International Level. She was given a very warm welcome by the villagers. She was taken around the entire village on a Elephant.
But when somebody asked her that what she wants to say on this occasion, she promptly said that the village panchayat should give two acres of common land for the play ground for girls. Many girls have a potential to prove their worth if they get the chance. Many months had passed but the panchayat was not serious on the issue.Rather some people were saying,” Ib yey peendi dikhanti handaingee galiyan mai kai” ( Now they roam in the streets of the village showing their naked legs.
Heads off to courage of girls of Haryana. Inspite ofall such odds and riders they are coming forward and showing their worth. Think of the situation when they have all round support! They will surpass America and China in Sports.

WE WANT THAT THEY SHOULD LEARN SEWING AND THATS ALL !

its almost the same story with girls all over india. not many are actually encouraged to play. and when they do, hell breaks looose. Look at Sania Mirza. she was the best tennis player India ever had, but the media completely lost it with her and she quit playing in India. she even had a fatwa on her for wearing what she did! thats just ridiculous! When girls do play, thats a problem and when they dont thats again a problem.

Thanks Sharmila ji for your comments. social taboos are a big problem on one side and non accessibility of infrastructure and opportunities is another one.

:P sharmila JI was a bit unexpected! anyways...ur right social taboos on one side and non accessibility of infrastructure and opportunities on the other, and life is hell for girls who think they want to play.

and i guess the situation will remain the same until the cricket crazziness of the entire country goes down. when we’re into cricket, we dont give anything else a chance. not even these girls...

Chak De India! Yes, girls have to struggle more than boys if they want to achieve something. In Indian society, a girl can proceed if she does not care for the criticism and boundaries made by the so called leaders of the surrounding society. In case of village, the problem is even bigger. This sports star is strong and bold and I am sure she will earn fame for the country.

Resp Sasmita ji,
Thanks for the comments.
There is a myth that women is a weaker sex. As a doctor I can say that scientifically women is a stronger sex biologically. In infancy a girl has more immunity to fight against diseases.

It is man made gender bias which discriminates against girls. You have rightly said that girls will have to fight against all such riders.

Resp. Sharmila ji

Cricket has ruined our national games and extreeme level of commercialisation is seen in this game.Coming to the topic, I have observed that in 24 hours daily life in a village ion Haryana, every group or swction or category of the village society has some work or otherwise occasion where these categories come together daily and discuss about their joys and sorrows exept the young girls who donot have any activity or otherwise where they can collectively share their problems or movements of khusi.
Something needs to be done .
