In recent times, the question of social justice came into lime light during the tenure of Sh V.P. Singh. It had a culmination in to Mandal Commission report acceptance. A slogan of Mandal vs Comandal became more complex in these days. This was the first time in Indian History that after scheduled caste reservation, the other backward class reservation issue was raised, accepted and implementation was attempted inspite of violent opposition of Upper castes all over India.
After that the question of reservation of women was raised and accepted though the Parliament is yet to pass a bill in this regard. In other words it can be said that the issue of social justice came to the forefront and to a larger the resolution of this was thought through reservations.
This was perceived that those sections of the society who who did not get social justice from social point of view, all these should get reservation in one form or the other. Even reservation for the minorities was also raised. This is a different matter that it was not accepted. In this way the culmination of social justice ended in to reservations of various categories of socially marginalized sections of Indian society.
But it should be reviewed that what happened to this reservation? Has it fulfilled the required purpose of social justice to deprived sections of the society? The social discrimination on caste bases is growing in new forms. The governments which came in to existence on the name of reservations and social justice, if critically analysed, then one can say that things are not much better.( Marj Badhta Hi Gaya Jayoon Jayoon Dava Ki). The results in a very extreme form are seen in Bihar.Uttar Pardesh is also not spared. The governments who came into power in the name of social justice, have maximum number of crimes, maximum corruption and attack on democratic process in states ruled by them. Many of the leaders who emerged through the slogan of social justice and captured the power either at centre or state, the same deprived sections were made victim of criminals and murders by these leaders.
The issue has become more difficult in due course. A creamy layer has also emerged amongst the deprived sections after availing the benefits of reservation. One should understand that till we fight for abolition of caste system and the present economic system, the amelioration of deprived and marginalised sections is not possible.
Kerala is one example. For this a new renaissance is required to challenge the social and religious structures which are helping the different governments in maintaining the various exploitations based upon caste, religion, region, language, gender, and unequal development.
In Haryana, Gyan Vigyam movement is trying to make people aware to transform themselves to fight for equal and just social order. The leadership of this movement is emerging from the deprived sections of Haryana.

You are right. Social justice doesn’t always mean reservation but reservation is a tool for doing justice with the socially deprived sections of society.
Social Injustice is more complex and wider
Reservation is just a small part of it.
